    Job Description: While the positions is listed as an Academic Advisor II, this position is specifically Pre-Health focus with the following responsibilities:

    The Pre-Health Advisor works with students and alumni who choose to explore health professions and pursue admission to health professional schools. While engaged in all aspects of pre-professional and pre-graduate school advising, this advisor takes lead on initiatives related to pre-health programming for students pursuing a variety of health-related careers. This is a full-time position that reports to the Pre-Health Advising Manager within the Center for Career Discovery and Development (C2D2).


    In addition to the Key Responsibilities, the position will be responsible for:


    *Advising pre-health students on preparing and applying for professional health programs, such as medical, dental or veterinary schools

    *Organizing workshops for students on topics such as pre-health preparation, application procedures, MCAT, interview skills, and letters of evaluation

    *Coordinating application support to include but not limited to, reviewing letters of evaluation for applicants, organizing and certifying faculty reference letters, and conducting mock interviews

    *Supporting the coordination and promotion of Pre-Health events

    *Advising pre-health student organizations

    *Supervising pre-health peer advisors and supporting student-driven events

    Impact & Influence: This position will interact on a consistent basis with: students, parents and faculty, staff.
    This position typically will advise and counsel: students.

    Department Description:

    The Georgia Tech Center for Career Discovery and Development (C2D2) is a part of the Georgia Tech Office of Undergraduate Education. C2D2 helps students prepare for their future through career exploration, internships, career advising, career fairs, career education, and more.

    C2D2 includes the cooperative education (Co-op) and internship programs in which students can participate while attending Georgia Tech, and Career Services gives them the resources they need to support their searches for full-time employment after graduation, such as help with the exploration, selection, and pursuit of meaningful careers; career counseling; career fairs; seminars; resume writing; interview tips, and more.

    Minimum Qualifications: 
    *Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
    *Work Experience: Four to five years job related experience
    *Certifications: N/A
    *Skills: This job requires knowledge of advanced university level academic program requirements and related administrative processes within assigned area. Also required are verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills and basic computer skills.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    *Preferred Education: Master's Degree in higher education administration, counseling, or a field related to healthcare professions (e.g. biology, biochemistry, etc.)
    *Preferred Work Experience: Four to five years job related experience
    *Preferred Certifications:
    *Preferred Skills: Preferred knowledge and skills include familiarity with health professional schools' admission processes and procedures. Past work with pre-health professional and student organizations (NAAHP, AMSA, MAPS, etc.) and previous experience with professional school application databases (AMCAS, AACOMAS, TMDSAS, etc.) are also valuable. Ability to effectively interact with individuals from different cultures and backgrounds to advance diversity in health professions is essential.
