  • Assistant Director of Admissions -Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine -Las Cruces, New Mexico

    Job Description: The Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine (BCOM), a private college of osteopathic medicine in Las Cruces, New Mexico, seeks applications from experienced and enthusiastic professionals for the position of Assistant Director of Admissions. The position is responsible for the admissions, recruitment and support of prospective students. Duties include interviews, campus tours, travel to/participation with recruitment events, and participation in the planning and implementation of the overall admissions and recruitment program.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Plan, develop, and implement departmental goals, action objectives and strategies to meet annual and long term goals and objectives, in accordance with the College's strategic plan.
    • Assist in the formulation, development, and implementation of policies and procedures and interpret those policies and procedures. Maintain proper number of office hours to accommodate appointments.
    • Provide information and assistance for new student enrollment such as financial aid, selective program admission, special needs referrals, etc.
    • Demonstrate leadership and provide direction to market instructional programs and develop recruitment, outreach, and admission strategies, in coordination with instructional departments and Public Relations. Promote the College programs and disseminate appropriate information. Lead and actively participate in recruiting new applicants in target markets and covert applicants
    to students.
    • In collaboration with the Director of Admissions, develop an annual recruiting plan to identify potential target audiences for specific recruitment and identify and communicate changes related to admission, recruitment, and outreach issues (e.g., limited enrollment program updates, etc.) to prospective students, staff members and employees.
    • Provide trainings regarding admissions process.
    • Perform admission counseling and advising/registration for students. Orchestrate the planning and participation in college/career events, new student orientation, and other Student Services activities. Perform necessary assessment and evaluation of programs and services, as needed.
    • Coordinate the campus and community recruiting activities with other College departments including logistics of the annual guidance counselor update, outreach to middle school students,
    the Admission office high school recruitment calendar, Early College events and services, social media plans for outreach and recruitment strategies.
    • Organize and actively participate in recruitment efforts and related techniques with the academic departments to assist in reaching enrollment goals and projections, diversity, and specific market segments.
    • Develop marketing and promotion of academic programs, web/electronic tools, brochures, flyers, assist other personnel and departments with data collection and problem solving.
    • Participate in appropriate recruitment and enrollment activities including: open houses, regional presentations, training sessions, orientation programs, career days, etc.
    • Assist in review, screening and scoring of applications to select the class. Assesses academic preparedness of applicants. Assesses applicants for motivation, initiative, leadership potential, work/life experience, extracurricular activities, socioeconomic status, disability, and educational/personal hardship. Use professional judgment when reviewing complex applications for admission.
    • Assists and manages Admissions personnel and daily processes.
    • Help manage applicant statuses in all electronic platforms.
    • Aid in managing master lists and all applicant review / evaluation list.
    • Aid in overseeing Admissions communications and applicant follow-up, to promote timely responses and correct actions.
    • Attend all Admissions Governance Council and Medical Student Selection Committee meetings.
    • Manage/oversee interview day activities.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications: 
    • Bachelor’s degree required, a combination of education and experience may be considered
    • Experience working in an academic/university setting.
    • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
    • Strong organizational and planning skills.
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills in order to work with potential applicants, advisors, etc.
    • Ability to organize time, plan programs and large group functions.
    • Must have the ability to relate well with a diverse student population and other constituencies, particularly of the southwestern US and northern Mexico border region.
    • Ability to maintain high energy level and enthusiasm for BCOM.
    • Ability to respond to difficult situations calmly and with credibility.
    • Respect for and ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Ability to travel throughout the year, including weekends and evenings.
