Duties / Responsibilities
• Provide academic advisement and career counseling to students pursuing careers in health-related professions;
• Track student progress towards successful completion of their programs/degrees in collaboration with other academic departments and offices;
• Chair the Pre-Health Committee and coordinate its recommendation process;
• Arrange individual appointments and conduct workshops to educate students about health-related career paths and application processes, including interviewing, resume-writing, and other “soft” skills;
• Write individualized cover letters and assemble letter packets for applicants to health professional programs;
• Advise student organizations affiliated with health-related fields.
• Identify, arrange, and oversee internships in the health-related fields in collaboration with the Office of Career Services;
• Assist students in finding shadowing and community service opportunities with local hospitals and other health-related organizations;
• Stay informed about recent developments in health-related fields and career paths;
• Serve as a resource for students and faculty with questions about health-related careers;
• Assist with preparing and maintaining informational and marketing materials related to the Center for Health and Human Development and the support it provides students pursuing health-related careers;
• Maintain all records related to pre-health advising, and student files, letters, etc.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director of the Center for Health and Human Development
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in health-related or STEM field required.
• Minimum of three years’ experience working with undergraduate students in a professional advising/counseling role.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree preferred.
