Duties / Responsibilities
The Assistant Dean of the College for Pre-Professional Advising provides academic advising and support as an academic dean, while holding particular expertise to guide students and recent alumni who are interested in careers in health, medicine and law. Pre-Professional Advising initiatives typically work with 800 students and recent alumni per year. The team emphasizes student learning and self-exploration, offering support that invites students to prepare themselves for these careers through curricular and co-curricular opportunities. The Assistant Dean works with colleagues to design and implement effective strategies for outreach to and inclusion of specific student populations, including historically underrepresented students, first generation college students, those with high demonstrated financial need, and international students.
An earned master’s degree or comparable experience, terminal degree (e.g. M.D. or Ph.D.) preferred. Three to five years experience as an advisor and/or academic administrator at a college or university. Experience in the development and execution of strategy and organizational systems/processes, documentation and assessment. Experience and/or familiarity with graduate school requirements, applications and interviews for the law and health professions. A proven track record in furthering university diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives while supporting students from historically underrepresented and/or minoritized backgrounds is required.
