    Reporting directly to the Dean of the School of Natural and Behavioral Sciences, the Director of Pre-Health Professions and STEM CUE liaison manages a comprehensive academic support program focused on Pre­ Health Professions, including oversight of the College's prestigious BA-MD program, and on supporting the University wide CUE (Coordinated Undergraduate Education) STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) initiatives. The Director serves a highly diverse student population and works collaboratively with faculty, administrators and student service professionals throughout the College.

    Typical tasks include:

    • Develop, recommend and implement the goals and activities for all pre-health professions advisement and maintain a database of student information, including student MCAT scores and admission to health professions schools;
    • Direct the BA-MD program and serve as BA-MD liaison with SUNY Downstate College of Medicine; participate in teaching the BA-MD senior seminar;
    • Propose and design effective pre-freshman and/or intersession STEM institutes;
    • In collaboration with existing programs and STEM initiatives (e.g., BA-MD, CHC, C-STEP, MARC, RISE, BOSC), market the College's pre-health and BA-MD programs and recruit students, especially from underrepresented groups, to pursue studies in pre-health;
    • Identify and formulate proposals for individual and institutional grants for undergraduate research in STEM disciplines.
    • Advise continuing and entering students regarding pre-medical course work and the non­curricular requirements for entry into schools of health professions and prepare candidates for admissions interviews and application process;
    • Oversee the review of applications, interviews, and admission of entering cohorts into the BA-MD program;
    • Coordinate the College's response to students' requests for letters of recommendation to schools of health professions based on faculty recommendations, the student's academic record, and firsthand knowledge of the student;
    • Coordinate communications with medical and biomedical research programs at SUNY Downstate and facilitate increased contact between the faculties and administrations at SUNY Downstate and Brooklyn College;
    • Use outcome assessments, including MCAT scores and exit interviews, to evaluate the success of pre-health professions preparation and advisement; recommend and implement improvements where appropriate;
    • In collaboration with the College administration and faculty, pursue articulation agreements with allied health professions programs;
    • Administer the budget for MCAT exam preparation and be responsible for recruitment and assessment of such prep courses;
    • Coordinate with the Magner Center to identify internships in health professions fields and solicit applications for them and to present pre-health professions panels and workshops;
    • Coordinate Salk applications and be responsible for nominations for this competitive CUNY-wide award;
    • Supervise clerical and advisement staff in the BA-MD Office and in the office of services for pre-health professions;
    • Serve on the Dean's Fellowships Advisory Council, the Dean's Council on Undergraduate Advisement, and CASE.

    Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

    • Bachelor's degree and eight years related experience required.

    • Ph.D degree in any health-related science.
