The Office of Pre-Professional & Graduate School Advising provides professional guidance and support to current UofSC students and alumni interested in pursuing pre-med/health, pre-law, and pre-graduate school tracks. This position will provide leadership and long-term strategic planning for the Pre-Professional/Graduate Advising office, and plan yearly on-going activities to guide and advance the competitiveness of students in pursuing post-graduate education. This position will assess the effectiveness and helpfulness of the office and cultivate meaningful relationships with students through comprehensive individualized and group advising. This position will liaise with admissions officers and medical and other health professional academic programs. This position will build relationships with student leaders in related student organizations, with pre-professional advisors at other state-wide and regional colleges and universities, and with community stakeholders in the medical professions. This position will promote, coordinate, and evaluate official experiential education and career education programs. 60% of this position has direct student contact and involves counseling, coaching, and advising students.
Masters degree plus 3 years experience, or Bachelors degree plus 5 years experience in career coaching/advising, academic advising, medical school admissions, or human resources in health profession settings.
Maintains expertise in the pre-med/health area. Familiarity with the various application services for professional & graduate programs (AMCAS, AADSAS, AACOMAS, CASPA, PT-CAS, VMCAS, OTCAS); excellent presentation skills for large and small groups; knowledge of student development relating to educational success; supervisory experience; excellent networking and advocating abilities; audience-adaptable communication skills.
