Duties / Responsibilities
This position will serve as the primary pre-health advisor for pre-health students at the University of Houston, and reports to the Director of the Pre-Health Advising Center. This position involves educating and working with students on academic requirements for health professions programs, gaining admissions into health professions programs, coordinating with other UH units that advise and support students applying to health professions programs, and coordinating programs and events to support students with an interest in health professions programs.
*Meets with students for individual advising on health professions preparation and information.
*Maintains thorough records on pre-health students through university software.
*Assists in maintaining supplemental application materials in an electronic database for medical, dental and other pre-health students.
*Assists in conducting orientation sessions for groups of incoming pre-health students.
*Assists in conducting workshops for pre-health students, focusing on assisting students in timely, successful activities in preparing for application to health professions programs.
The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following:
*Higher Education experience.
*Ability to take initiative, problem solve, exercise excellent judgment, demonstrate critical thinking skills and adapt to shifting priorities in diverse setting.
*Ability to clearly interpret and implement policies and procedures.
*Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
*Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
*Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors and 3 years experience
- Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.

In addition to minimum qualifications, experience with medical school or other health professions advising is preferred.
