Job Description: The Academic Advisor/Nursing and Health Science Specialist is responsible for providing direct advising and counseling to students enrolled at Hagerstown Community College (HCC), advising them in their course selection, making educational plans, assisting them in the potential career and transfer possibilities, and counseling and case management services while in the community college setting. In addition, this position may be selected at any time to provide assistance, advisement, and counseling services to specific case management populations as outlined in grants secured by HCC. Minimum Qualifications: Education and experience - Master's degree in counseling, social work, education, or related field required. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working with students in a higher education setting; knowledge and experience working with a student database system (Datatel/WebNow) preferred; background in the Maryland transfer articulation system preferred.
Preferred Qualifications: Skills and abilities - strong interpersonal skills to guide students in their academic decision-making; excellent organizational and planning skills in working with the career and transfer student population; advising and communication skills to interact effectively with students (specifically nursing and health science students), faculty, staff, administrators (i.e. Directors of Nursing and Health Science), coaches, and community leaders; proficient computer skills, especially in the use of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Internet, and Email.
