Job Description:
- Advise prehealth students on career decision making, academic and extra-curricular expectations, and application strategies
- Work collaboratively with the College of Life Sciences Advisement Center and Dean’s Office to enhance advisement to CLS students
- Attend regularly scheduled CLS advisement staff and faculty meetings to collaborate and improve services to CLS students
- Identify and build relationships with CLS and BYU alumni and health care providers in order to facilitate mentoring, job shadowing, the obtaining of clinical experience, etc.
- Develop and report on relevant CLS outcomes: e.g. numbers of CLS students applying to program, number accepted
- Work with CLS faculty and staff to increase the quality of CLS student applications
- Propose and teach group advisement sessions/workshops to pre-professional CLS students
- Assist PPAC director to create and maintain office strategic plan and goals
- Work with director to manage pre-health programming to increase outreach and efficiency, including workshops, conferences, group advising, and events that support PPAC students
- Hire and manage student employees, as requested by Director
- Collect and analyze data regarding prehealth admissions statistics, office satisfaction, etc.
- Aid in creating and delivering annual application conference and re-applicant events and resources
- Direct other staff members on event planning details
- Collaborate with Deans and other relevant stakeholders across campus
- Present and coordinate other speakers and manage the event
- Participate in collaboration and outreach with other advisement centers, deans and administrators, and departments on campus
- Advocate for curriculum changes, as appropriate
- Present to other departments and to BYU courses
- Consult with advisors, faculty, and administrators about prehealth needs
- Teach prehealth courses, and serve as advisor for prehealth clubs, as directed
- Ensure students abide by all BYU club policies and procedures
- Work with club’s leadership in organizing/scheduling club activities.
- Coordinate with special guest lecturers/ visiting schools.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree required, preferably in a health-related or science field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three to five years’ experience mentoring and advising university/college students preferred. See website for additional skills and knowledge desired.
