    Job Description
    The Academic Advisor (recruitment # 823) in the Pre-Health Student Resources Center (PHSRC) will work collaboratively with other members of the PHSRC and Academic Advising Center & Career Services (AAC/CS), serving as a primary health-professions advising resource at UW-La Crosse. In particular, the Academic Advisor provides information on programs in a variety of health professions to students and prospective students and provides advising support for faculty, faculty advisors, program directors, and department chairs, as well as staff across the UWL campus. The advisor will be a member of a team providing developmental, proactive advising. Responsibilities include teaching Introduction to Health Related Careers, meeting with students and families, presenting information about the requirements of health professions at workshops, admissions events, and advising sessions. The successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to multiculturalism, diversity and inclusive excellence, and an ability to work with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds. This is a full-time 12-month position and includes a State of Wisconsin benefits package.

    Minimum Qualifications
    1. Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field required by start date.
    2. Excellent interpersonal skills.
    3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    4. Ability to advise health professions students.
    5. Proficiency with web-based applications.
    6. Ability to work with department chairs, faculty, and students.

    Preferred Qualifications
    1. Minimum of two years’ professional experience working in a higher education setting.
    2. Experience in academic advising
    3. Teaching experience
    4. Education or experience working with health professions or health professions admissions processes
    5. Experience with information technology such as Microsoft Office, educational/administrative software.
    6. Experience with student information systems software
    7. Experience planning, coordinating, and presenting at events.
