  • Health Professions Director - Juniata College - Huntingdon, PA

    Job Description: Serves as a central resource about the various healthcare fields to students, the College community, outside agencies, and prospective students and their families and maintain current information through active participation in the National and Northeast Associations of Advisors for the Health Professions

    Manages formal affiliation agreements with professional schools, and nurture contacts with admissions directors at professional schools

    Serves as Chair of the Health Professions Committee, which functions as an advisory board for the program and directly advises all of Juniata’s Health Professions students

    Coordinates the health professions advising process by providing support and guidance to members of the Health Professions Committee, and acting as an advising resource for all students in the program. The Director will work collaboratively with the academic advising function in QUEST (the academic resource/student success center), organize and coordinate group advising sessions and focused student workshops throughout the professional school application process, and provide formal progress evaluation of each health professions student following their third semester on campus.

    Supports students in all stages of participation in the Health Professions Program: participates in recruitment of students to the program and represents the College at open house events, provide information about the Health Professions to incoming students at orientation, coordinate Health Professions advising, coordinate the annual award process for health professions student scholarship and award winners.

    Manages the application process by participating in committee interviews, providing oversight and participation in the annual committee letter writing process, ultimately editing and submitting the final committee letters, staying up to date with applicant progress, following through with all evaluation forms from professional schools, and advocating for applicants as appropriate.

    Teaches one or more courses annually that are central to the program

    Serves as club advisor to the student health professions organization to support co-curricular mentorship and professional development

    Collaborates with advancement and alumni relations to strengthen relationships between alumni and on-campus constituents and to pursue external funding for initiatives related to the Health Professions Program

    Proposes new academic programs pertinent to health professions and consistent with the College mission, lead decision-making related to those proposals, and participate in the implementation of resulting programs

    Performs administrative duties in support of the Health Professions Program including planning, preparation, and administration of the yearly program budget, management of the health professions e-mail listserv for current students, maintenance of an updated program website that serves as a valuable resource to current and prospective students, annual assessment of student outcomes and program success, and preparation of a comprehensive annual report for the College Senior Leadership Team.

    Minimum Qualifications: Advanced degree beyond Bachelor’s study required
    3-5 years of experience in student advising and mentorship of students pursuing careers in the health professions
    Expertise in program development and grant writing
    Organizational and computer skills
    Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
    Ability to maintain confidentiality
