    Job Description:
    The Assistant Director in the Career Center for Pre-Professional & Graduate School Planning will establish and coordinate a pre-professional/graduate school career advising program through the Career Center that supports all students and works collaboratively with faculty, campus partners, Career Center staff, and graduate and professional schools admissions representatives. As part of the Career Center team, this position will develop, implement, and assess career advising services and programs for students who are pursuing graduate or professional school. In addition to supervising a career development specialist, this position will collaborate with designated faculty in academic departments, academic advisors, and the National Scholarships Office to identify students and market resources, opportunities, and career advising services to them. Through one-on-one, small group, and large group sessions the Assistant Director, Pre-Professional & Graduate School Planning will coach students through the career exploration process to help them identify graduate and professional school programs as well as the professional application and interview process. Serving as the principal source of information and advice for students seeking these opportunities, this individual will serve as a campus liaison to academic departments, student organizations, and additional campus offices as it relates to preparing students for pursuing professional and graduate school studies. The Assistant Director will serve as the principal source of information and advice about preparation for health professions beyond the bachelor’s degree (medicine, dentistry, optometry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy, public health, veterinary medicine, etc.), law, and master and doctoral programs across disciplines. As a member of the Career Center Leadership Team, this position provides additional support and responsibility for goal setting as well as reporting and tracking student outcomes as it relates to graduate and professional school while also working collaboratively with the staff to implement the campus wide career planning initiative. Individual will also supervise a Career Specialist and coordinate a Graduate/Pre-Professional Council to liaison with faculty and academic advisors. 

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or other relevant field.
    • Previous full-time work experience in career services, academic advising, pre-professional advising or recruitment/admissions, or related functional area within a college setting.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field
    • A candidate should have 3 – 5 years work experience that includes programming and planning as well as teaching, advising, coaching, and/or counseling to students that focused on or included pre-professional and graduate school career or academic planning and preparation and/or enrollment or student services with college students, particularly those in graduate or professional programs.
    • Planning, counseling, advisement, and ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.
    • Candidates should also have a commitment to student success and to diversity in an educational setting.
