    Job Description
    Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time Career Development Specialist- Pre- Health Cluster with Career Development.

    Gustavus Adolphus College is a private liberal arts college in Saint Peter, Minn., that prepares over 2,200 undergraduates for lives of leadership, service, and lifelong learning.     The position takes on an industry-specific community that will provide all students with career advisement, mentors, as well as opportunities for students to build relationships with industry leaders. This newly created position will report to the Senior Career Development Specialist – Health Professions. The focus of this Career Development Specialist will be on allied health areas including: physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant, nursing, public health, optometry and other areas as determined.

    Successful candidates will have an entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to helping students from diverse backgrounds to build necessary mentoring relationships and to secure the best experiential learning and post-graduate outcomes to match their goals. The ideal candidate will be a talented collaborator, who is able to balance a robust workload, work effectively in teams, and complete work independently.

    This role is about being a connector. This person will be a unique professional who is able to balance direct advising, build robust networks, and assist student with developing a professional attribute that enables them to confidently compete in an ever-changing world of work.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    • Serve as liaison to a set of academic departments/areas of study; utilize industry/field expertise related to Allied Health areas
    • Develop an internal community board to help assist and guide career decision making in specific industry communities and to serve as mentors to students in guided pathways
    • Partner with Admissions Office to conduct presentations to prospective students and parents during on-campus visit days
    • Cultivate new relationships and maintain existing relationships with graduate programs/employers/alumni to provide students with access to meaningful opportunities such as visit days, internships, career explorations, shadowing, and other skill-building experiences starting in students' first year on campus
    • Collaborate with faculty and staff to attract appropriate applicants to opportunities
    • Develop external community board to help assist and guide career decision making in specific industry community and to serve as mentors to students in guided pathways
    • Organize on-campus recruiting activities and off-campus site visits, including job postings, campus interviews, and specialized recruiting events appropriate to the field represented. Maintain accurate records in a customer relationship management system to inform practice and demonstrate results
    • Aid students in developing strategies for improving students' career preparation through identification of mentors that will have a profound impact in developing their career strategy
    • Guide students in ways that help them to secure the best jobs/internships and/or admittance to graduate schools
    • Advise students/alumni individually and in group settings on topics such as exploring majors/career interests, understanding the intersection of identity and career, developing a professional presence, understanding the nuances of industries/job functions/organizational culture, writing professional documents, and interviewing
    • Assist students in formulating pre-requisite four-year academic plans based on their pre-health area of interest in conjunction with co-curricular opportunities, skills, and career interests
    • Utilize appropriate technology and social media tools to provide and promote resources and services for students, alumni, and employers
    • Understanding of Industry Best Practices
    • Participate in ongoing professional development activities to ensure best practices of specific industries
    Minimum Qualifications
    • Graduate/professional degree strongly preferred (all areas of study will be considered); Bachelor's Degree is required
    • 3 years of experience outside of higher education in an Allied Health related field preferred
    • Ability to work with students in a multi-faceted capacity that includes advising, mentoring, and collaboration
    • Must have an interest in working with students, employers, and faculty from culturally diverse backgrounds and with interests in a variety of industries/job functions
    • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships
    • Must be team oriented with strong interpersonal skills and ability to think creatively, entrepreneurial, a fast learner, and have the ability to build programmatically
    • Ability to use the technology required for the role, such as social media, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and databases
    • Attentive to details and strong writing and editing capabilities
    • Available to work some evenings and weekends
    • Must have valid driver's license and willingness to travel (primarily in Twin-Cities and southern MN)
    • Ability to work with people of multiple hierarchical levels that include students, alumni, faculty, trustees, and executives
    • Must bring a sense of energy, positive attitude, enthusiasm, and a strong work ethic.
