For those less familiar with our program, it is a “record enhancer” postbaccalaureate, prehealth graduate certificate program that is a joint venture between the Georgetown University Medical Center and George Mason University.

The curriculum is based on the “regular” Masters in Physiology offered by Georgetown (not the “Special Masters Program”) but the philosophy and many of the faculty are shared with the SMP. The Certificate consists of 20 credits with about half of the students continuing on to the full Masters in Physiology at Georgetown where they complete the remaining 10 credits for that degree. Other Masters options are available at George Mason and at Georgetown.

The program has graduated nine classes and has placed approximately 65% of these graduates in medical or dental schools within two years of finishing the program. About 70% of the students are premed, about 20% pre-dental, and the remainder pre-PA or other tracks. These students are roughly 50% from Virginia, 20% from Maryland and the rest from throughout the country with California, New York, and Florida well represented. Over half of our students identify as being of an underrepresented minority background (about 45% African-American, 15% Latino) and a large number are first-generation Americans.

The average undergraduate GPA is 3.2. No test scores are required for admission but we offer test prep (MCAT, DAT, or GRE) as part of the curriculum. Students must show a commitment to healthcare before gaining entry into our program as evidenced by clinical, volunteer, and/or research activity in the field.

Our main focus in bolstering study skills, improving perspective on the healthcare field, and boosting confidence and general readiness for professional school. This event is limited to 35 schools and is intended for our 100 or so current G2 students as well as alums of our program. In total, I would expect 125 students all poised to apply to programs a year from now.

For the fair, we will provide a table, parking, light breakfast with coffee, and lunch. Set up may start at 9:15 am and the fair will run from 10am-2pm. There is no fee for attending.

After filling out the survey for registration, we will email you with further details about the fair.
