  • Advisor, University of Missouri (Columbia, MO)

The mission of the Office of Fellowships and Advanced Studies is to develop engaged candidates for competitive academic programs by guiding them to become stronger advocates for their goals and aspirations. FAS houses two advising services – Fellowships Advising and Medical Opportunities Advising – to accomplish this mission. Our team is recruiting a Fellowships & Pre-Health Advisor to help us further this work. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to:

    1) advise MU students applying for globally and nationally competitive STEM fellowships (with a focus on federally-funded awards such as the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates, and the SMART Scholarship). Advising fellowship candidates includes but is not limited to meeting with individual candidates, reviewing and editing students’ application materials, conducting workshops, researching new/different fellowships to promote, and communicating fellowship information with faculty and staff.

    2) provide high-quality student support services to MU students interested in professional medical careers. Supporting pre-health students involves facilitating Committee Interviews, writing and submitting Committee Interview letters of evaluation, and conducting advising appointments.

From approximately August to May each academic year, this role will focus on supporting STEM fellowship candidates. From May through August, this role’s primary focus will be facilitating the Medical Opportunities Advising Program’s Committee Interview and Letter Packet services.

Members of the FAS team care about supporting one another so that we can advance student success and development. Apply to join our team if you are looking for a highly-collaborative, dynamic, and rewarding student support services position.
