    Director of Student Affairs

    Position Summary:
    The University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine (UIWSOM) educates aspiring physicians to be justice-minded, global citizens using a community-based, distributed model of education, which fosters inclusion, discovery and innovation. The UIWSOM invites applications for the Director of Student Affairs (DSA).

    The DSA reports directly to the Associate Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs (ADASA) and provides leadership and administration in accordance with established guidelines, university and school policy and government regulations. The DSA is responsible for upholding the mission of the school and providing overall leadership and oversight of those programs supporting students and enhancing their educational experience at UIWSOM. These programs include student orientation, advising, career counseling and extracurricular student activities. The DSA oversees activities of Student Affairs in collaboration with the other UIWSOM colleagues, works in concert with appropriate committees and UIW and SOM policies. The DSA will operate within the UIWSOM framework of lifelong learning through collaborative scholarship, innovative educational excellence and learner-centered curricula. The DSA will also work closely with colleagues in education who oversee the management of all SOM program curricula.

    This position is considered a “Responsible Employee” under Title IX federal regulations and “Mandatory Reporter” under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

    • Demonstrated community service orientation
    • Training or experience in applying relational practice and relational leadership frameworks in student mentoring, advising, supervising and outreach to foster a professional growth-oriented learning community
    • Demonstrated success in applying the helping competencies for efficacious practice in student affairs, including but not limited to active listening and communication skills, crisis management skills, discernment, and the use of appropriate referrals
    • Demonstrated effectiveness as a culturally competent professional with broad experience interacting with and supporting the needs of a diverse student population
    • Demonstrated effectiveness in managing complex organizational processes and making data-driven decisions. This includes demonstrated ability to collect and manage data to track performance outcomes
    • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA

    Required Education:
    Master’s degree in relevant field

    Required Work Experience:
    • Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience in medical or health professions education
    • Experience with COCA, LCME or other health professions education accreditation

    Preferred Qualifications:
    PhD degree

    Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations:
    Must hold a valid driver’s license and have a driving history acceptable to the University insurance carrier.

    Work Hours:
    Typical work week is Monday thru Friday. Campus activities may occur during evening and weekend hours; therefore, candidate must be available to work when needed

    Physical Demands:
    • Frequent use of hands, vision (e.g. close and color vision and the ability to adjust focus) and hearing.
    • Lifting objects not to exceed 25 lbs.; crouching, crawling, standing and sedentary work in an office and multiple learning environments.
