    Pre-Health Functions:
    • Advise any university student who intends to pursue a health profession, including medical, dental, podiatry, optometry, and physician assistant fields.
    • Assist students in assessing their interests, values, and abilities as related to their educational/career goals through in-person, phone, and email exchanges.
    • Advise students on prerequisite coursework, semester-by-semester planning, admissions testing, and the application process in one-on-one and group advising appointments.
    • Serve on the Pre-Professional Evaluation Committee and write committee letters on behalf of candidates for medical, dental, optometry and podiatry programs.
    • Instructs a first-year seminar for Pre-Medicine majors

    Academic Advising Functions:
    • Advise assigned students (pre-majors and majors in Pre-Medicine and Science) in one-on-one advising meetings.
    • Offer guidance in educational planning by advising students on registration, course offerings, educational policies, semester-by-semester planning, and degree audits.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • This position will be filled as level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience.
    • Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3.
    • Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.
    • Applicants with a science background and advising experience preferred.
    • Other required skills include attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication.
    • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint is desirable.
    • This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience interviewing and writing committee letters.
