to Main Abstracts Online page Fundamentals in Financial Aid: Factors for Consideration by Health Professions Advisors and their Premedical Students Linda Gilbert and Carol Elam, EdDAbstract – Since the financial cost of a medical education is increasing, it is more important than ever for students to develop a familiarity with financial management and the sources of financial aid. This article reviews the sources of financial aid, from the federal to the local level, explains how financial aid packages are developed by each school, and what the application procedures are. Student credit ratings are discussed, along with an estimate of the monthly repayment costs a graduate may be responsible for. The article includes resources that provide the student and advisor with information to make informed decisions. An emphasis is put on the importance of a student being budget-conscious.
