About the Event:

      Workshop Overview:
In drug discovery R&D, scientists have struggled to represent complex macromolecules in their informatics systems, forcing them to use various inefficient approaches that included multiple nomenclatures and textual descriptions. Lack of industry-wide standards created many challenges when exchanging data internally and externally. HELM (Hierarchical Editing Language for Macromolecules) notation, the open biomolecular representation standard, has solved this problem by providing a means to represent various types of complex macromolecules (e.g. nucleotides, proteins, antibodies, and antibody-drug conjugates) including the ones that contain unnatural amino acids or nucleotides/nucleosides. This workshop will focus on the advancements in handling these diverse entities as well as areas of future improvement and development.

      About Scilligence and HELM:
HELM was originally created by Pfizer scientists and later made open source by the Pistoia Alliance, a global alliance of life science companies, vendors, publishers and academic groups with the mission of increasing innovation in the field of life science research. Scilligence was selected by Pistoia Alliance in a competitive process to develop the HELM Web Editor. The HELM Web Editor greatly decreased technology dependencies and increased the ease-of-use as well and furthered the standardization of in HELM notation. Since the release of the HELM Web Editor, Scilligence continues to make developments that address challenges in handling macromolecules, such as features for ambiguity and HELM monomer library management. Scilligence's unique Cartridge that supports both chemistry and biology, made it possible for Scilligence to incorporate HELM in all of its solutions.

      About Scilligence’s R&D Informatics Workshops:
Twice a year Scilligence invites guest speakers to share their experiences with informatics and discuss future innovation. Join us for a Fall workshop focused on informatics for macromolecules and enjoy inspiring presentations, lunch, networking, and raffles. Scilligence will also fill you in on new advancements and upcoming features in our informatics solutions. Agenda and speakers will be announced soon.
