Strategy for Success: A Handbook for Prehealth Students
The Health Professions Admissions Guide: Strategy for Success continues the tradition of providing detailed, up-to-date information on a variety of health professions. It begins with the initial questions students should ask when exploring these professions and continues through to the application procedure, giving helpful advice to increase chances of acceptance. Written and edited by a committee of experienced health professions advisors, and with the valuable contributions of the NAAHP Advisory Council members, the Health Professions Admissions Guide delineates a simple and effective strategy to approach the often complex process of applying to health professions schools.

The Health Professions Admissions Guide is an invaluable reference guide for both students and advisors. As an important reference on the advisor’s shelf, a wonderful addition to the resource library for students, or as the text for an introductory course on the health professions, this guidebook will help students prepare for their health professions education.

Write for Success: Preparing a Successful Professional School Application
|

|
Third Edition, 2005
Write for Success: Preparing a Successful Professional School Application is geared specifically to helping you write clearly for the tasks related to the health professions application process. Through the use of examples of both successful and unsuccessful applications, critical reviews of actual applications by three admissions deans, and experienced advice from the authors, Write for Success will help you to realize your dreams of matriculating into a health professional school.
The importance of writing clearly must not be underestimated. Admissions committees report that factors other than GPA and entrance exam scores play a critical role in the evaluation process. One of the criteria mentioned repeatedly is the personal comment section of the health professional application. Write for Success is designed to help the student with writing this statement for the professional school application.

Tenth Edition, 2012 Now Available
The information in this manual was obtained by health professions advisors who interviewed admissions deans or directors at each U.S. medical school. The PARM is a complement to the Medical School Admissions Requirement (MSAR) book (published by the Association of American Medical Colleges) and Osteopathic Medical College Information Book (published by the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine). It addresses issues and questions of concern to advisors in a single, user-friendly resource.
For each entry (i.e. medical school) there are six categories:
• The admissions process
• The competitive applicant
• The interview
• Communication with students
• Special features
• Citizenship/residency
|
Advisors can learn:
• How schools screen for interviews
• What types of letters of evaluation are preferred
• How the wait list is used
• What the deferral policy is
• Often telephone numbers or email addresses for advisor-use only are included
• And much more...
Advisors understand that some of the information that admissions personnel may share with them is confidential in nature and must be used judiciously by advisors as they assist their students. Advisors who purchase the manual must be employed by a college or university in a role that includes premed advising. Advisors sign a statement verifying that, and agree to maintain the confidentiality of the manual.
The Premedical Advisor’s Reference Manual is a reflection of the collaborative and collegial relationship that exists between advisors and medical school admissions deans and directors. It is a must-have for advisors.
